New Day #68

Tonight I engaged in publicly sanctioned dwarf tossing.

Cirque du Soleil's Corteo opened in Portland and I was one of the lucky audience members who got to touch the tiny feet of a tiny acrobat:

I so admire Cirque du Soleil. They put nothing but wonder and beauty in the world, featuring the best humanity has to offer. Sheer visual poetry.

Corteo, in particular is so life affirming, focusing on the adventures of a man headed to heaven. Which is exactly how I felt.

I've never been to a Cirque du Soleil. The tickets were always too expensive for me.

She is precious.

I saw a Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas . . . mesmerizing.

What will it be tomorrow??!

I had the great fortune of catching Ka at the MGM Grand in Vegas a few years ago. The show was amazingly beautiful. Saltimbanco is coming to Albuquerque and I'd love to see it.

There is a book you may have heard of called "Water for Elephants." It's an inside look at the circus. While I imagine Cirque du Soleil is nothing like the old days of Barnum & Baily and their competition, it's a wonderful read, and makes you wonder how much they are related.

I've somehow stumbled across your blog and became engrossed in your New Day Series. May I call it a series? Well, I did. So there. I read it backwards. I hope you do not mind. I'm curious to find out what you'll be doing on your next New Day and so I have added you to my blog list for my own personal easy access.

Carry on.

Welcome to my world. I hope you find it amusing. And, thanks, Joy, for the recommendation. I'll look for it the next time I'm at the bookstore.

PS I feel your pain, David. I scored comps.

I loved Corteo when I saw it. Such a brilliant show about a life well lived. We just saw Kooza in San Francisco in December and it was equally lovely (though more of a return to their circus roots). Such good stuff!

Wasn't Corteo fabulous? Before Varekai was here in PDX a couple of years ago I had never seen a Cirque show and probably would never have gone if a friend hadn't gifted me a ticket for my birthday. Now I'm a huge fan. Their shows are so aesthetically lovely, life affirming and creative. If you've never seen it, there's a fabulously inspiring book by John Bacon & Lyn Heward called "CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: THE SPARK: Igniting the Creative Fire That Lives Within Us All"

Great blog, btw, I'll have to link to you so I don't forget to come back and look again!
