New Day #286

As someone who habitually breaks out in song, I'd like to teach the world to sing. Y'know, in perfect harmony.

So, naturally I accepted the invitation of animal lover and expert Carol Frischman to teach her parrot to sing opera.

"Gray Bird loves to sing along with Barbra Streisand," she said.

Once she told me that he's also very particular about his appearance, I suggested he might be Gay Bird.

I spent about half an hour singing the first line of "Il Mio Tesoro" from Mozart's Don Giovanni, to which Gray Bird flapped his wings and bobbed to the rhythm, but otherwise stayed silent.

That said, Carol says that he often will practice on his own for weeks before surprising everyone, which is how he learned to say, "You look maahvelous."

Fun random fact about parrots: they live to be about eighty, which intrigues me no end. Since Gray Bird is only twenty, he's in Carol's will.

I'll let you know if he finally sings Mozart, hopefully while I'm still alive. In the meantime, I'm getting tired of looking like someone you'd see on a can of refried beans, so I trimmed the 'stache for a 1930s look.

Frankly, my dear...

NOt that you asked, or care--I like the fuller 'stache. This look makes me think more Latin American despot, than Clark Gable. It detracts from your general handsome nature.

But, in full disclosure, I've never been a fan of overly manscaped facial hair on men.

Oh, er, um, ~sigh~. Nope, liked the regular mustache much better.

You should teach the bird to sing Papa Can you Hear Me

My first thought was "porn star"! but realized the 'stache should be a lot bushier, ala Magnum, PI.

Perhaps Gray Bird might be more responsive to one of Papageno's arias from "The Magic Flute"--after all "Papageno" means "Parrot" in Italian!
