New Day #340

You know how you get a song stuck in your head? Well, I decided to actually pay attention to what I sing to myself--the ultimate playlist. Over the course of a few days, I figured it'd reveal something hitherto unknown about my psychological makeup.

Yeah, not so much.

For the most part, I could trace exactly why I started singing a particular song, usually because it was associated with what I was thinking about in an obvious, literal way or, worse, because I'd just heard it.

Occasionally I surprised myself. Like when a friend called in need and I responded with the theme from Mighty Mouse:

Or when my friend Tim announced he was moving to LA and I found myself singing this Handel aria:

Frankly, I'm pleased to learn that I'd react so magnanimously, when in fact I'm both bummed he's leaving and jealous he's off on an adventure, the like of which I have not had in a while.

Hence this blog.

You know what? I always have the most random songs stuck in my head. For example, I was talking to a friend and the topic was on movies we'd seen recently. Out of nowhere, I start humming The US Air Force theme. "Off we go, into the wild blue yonder" Who gets that stuck in their head when talking about Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil?

Oh and by the way, I'm trying to excite some friends into going to see Holidazed with me. Hopefully I'll see you there!

Oh man, I love that Andy Kaufman clip so much! I had to watch it again and it always brings a smile to my face!

Thanks for posting it!

From letterboxing, to Mighty Mouse, to Handel in 24 hours... Hmm, I don't see the appeal of moving to LA. Maybe because I've been there a few times recently.

I'll accept you're bummed Tim's moving - but with your adventures this year - the appeal of a move to LA is more a chance to escape. Sort of like a Mother's Day card I got one year. "Thanks Mom, for not running away!"

At age four, I was in love with Mighty Mouse. Literally. In love. As in, I wanted to marry him.

This song made me cry and I don't even know the fellow. I think I need a third book in the series to cheer me up :)

ZOMG!!1! I'd forgotten I knew all the words to that song! That, and the Super Chicken song, the Tennessee Tuxedo song, the Underdog theme, the George of the Jungle theme, the Gilligan's Island theme. . .
