New Day #74

MK Guth’s art is a big hairy deal. Literally. The Portland-based artist’s newest installation of braids is the hit of the Whitney Biennial in New York, landing her on the cover of last Friday's New York Times’ Weekend section.

I totally heart conceptual artists. How can you not admire someone who decides they must braid thousands of feet of synthetic hair?

Never having been to the Whitney Biennial before (or to the Park Avenue armory), I stopped in and got to answer MK’s question, “What is worth protecting?’ Then I braided my response into the hundreds of others she’s gathered.

In case you can’t read it, my answer was “Musicals.”
