Today I discovered skunk cabbage. Well, not like a scientist who gives it a long Latin name no one ever uses (
malodorous florus), but, hey, it was new to me.
And, yes, it really does smell like skunk.

Pretty though, huh? Very
Mapplethorpey. As in, "Is that a pistil in your petal or are you just happy to see me?"

I grew up with skunk cabbage in the woods around my neighborhood. What a blast from the past.
I am one of those odd ducks who remembers the latin names of plants from my horticulture and botany class days in undergrad. I can't remember what I did yesterday, but I can tell you the latin name of Redbud and Dogwood trees.
