In an effort to eat slower, I ate an open-faced turkey sandwich with a fork and a knife. Having grown up hanging out in Jersey diners, I'm something of a connoisseur of the hot open turkey sandwich, slathered in gelatinous (and might I say, delicious) gravy. But my gravy days are past, now that I'm all healthy and what-not.
That's a roasted red pepper peaking out from underneath, by the way. They make a nice alternative for tomatoes when those are out of season.

Hot roast beef open face, with a big mountain of mashed potatoes was one of my favorites. Or, french fries with gravy. That was the best!
Yum! That looks good, I should eat healthier...
I once asked a waitress what was in the open-faced turkey sandwich and received a blank stare and ridicule from my dining companions. I had meant ASIDE from the turkey and bread, but it was too late. The moment was to live in infamy.
Bon apetite.
