New Day #114

They (from the planet Them) say it takes three weeks to break a habit. Well, I have now gone three weeks without sweets. This is, of course, the single greatest achievement every accomplished by anybody.

What's more, an open container of ice cream has actually remained uneaten in my freezer. I didn't even know ice cream could last that long. It's cream, right? Surely you must eat it out of the container in one sitting while listening to Morrissey. Instead, mysterious crystals have formed.

Definitely a new thing for me.

You could read "Breaking the vicious cycle" by Elaine Gottschall. It gives good recepies for ice cream with no sugar, vegetable pasta, sauces with no flour...

And it lets you eat black chocolate.

Hooray for you!!!! I can relate-I have been "sweet-free" since Sept. 06, and I was the closest thing to a sugar addict that there is. Stay strong, it only gets easier. It is one of the most important changes I have made in my life. And as you persevere, the more determined you will be not to spoil your record :)

I'm not ready to say I won't ever eat sweets again, but I'm liking how I feel and definitely want to break my dependence.

I did the same thing with caffeine and alcohol last year--the couple of times I tried integrating them back in just made me feel sick.

Thanks for your support.

this posting is hilarious! so, i'm curious, did you cave in to sugar after your trip to powell's? i have also never had ice cream in the freezer long enough for crystals to form. is it safe to eat at that point ?:)
i periodically attempt to give up sugar and am convinced that it is as difficult (for me at least) as giving up smoking. after consuming a tasty breakfast consisting of an entire endangered species chocolate (bat) bar on toast i am wired out of my mind and once again ready to attempt to kick the habit. we will see if i can hold out past lunch.

btw: i recently went to an event at a local bookstore and ended up spending the entire evening in the corner with your book "attack of the theatre people". i can't put it down! i was a theatre geek in high school during the 80s and can SO relate. very funny. can't wait to see you at elliott bay books in may!

i am very impressed!

you have inspired me to make it 24 hours so far, which, sadly, is an accomplishment.
