New Day #144

One of the benefits of blogging daily is that it's made me aware of just how ridiculously neurotic I can be. For instance, for today's New Thing I overcame my cereal phobia. Frankly, I wasn't aware I had one. Despite the fact that I pride myself on being an adventuresome eater, I have a major block when it comes to cereal. I'm not sure why, though it has something to do with the fact that it comes in a box. You just can't tell what it's going to be like. And a box of cereal lasts for a lot of breakfasts, so you're stuck with it for a week.

As a result, I've been eating Trader Joe's Toasted Oatmeal Flakes for at least five years now. Every morning. Dry, with a glass of milk on the side. With my fingers, though perhaps that's over-sharing. Lately, however, they've been running out, which has caused me to horde boxes like I'm a Mormon stockpiling supplies. Seriously, I'll buy sixteen boxes just so I won't have to try anything new. If I do run out, I'll make eggs and toast rather than cheat on my cereal with another box.

But I've been on the road and Floyd doesn't suffer from this same affliction, so I forced myself to try Trader Joe's Organic Honey Crunch 'n Oats. And, like Mikey in the old Life cereal commercial, I liked it.

Which is yet another example of Better Living Through Blogging.

Trader Joe's running low on supplies is a nightmare. They weren't carrying the peanut butter I liked for awhile, they got a shipment about a month ago and I bought a life's supply of peanut butter, basically. I sympathize.

I think I would starve if it were not for TJ's...

You are a complete animal! Be sure that this project wont be the end of you, with all of this crazy cereal changing and all :)

From the perspective of another dry-cereal-eaten-with-hands person, you should consider how much more flexible you are on the road then the traditional crowd. They might eat more cereals, but are milk and spoon dependent. Refrigeration! Dish soap or trash cans! Bowls! How do people live like that?

Cheater! Think of the alimony that the Oatmeal Flakes are going to demand.

Hmm... if you hadn't liked it, I was going to suggest sharing your new bounty with the birds in the parks. :)

Panthergirl sent me your way.
I enjoyed your novel, btw, and am happy to discover the sequel!

Do not try the Peanut Butter Puffins. They were terribly disappointing. I like the Berry O's. Mmm.
