New Day #159

Perhaps the crash was inevitable. Yesterday I was ebullient in the discovery of the secret to happiness; today I was crying in the kitchen in frustration.

You see, if you're anything like me (and I assume you are, otherwise you wouldn't be reading), you might have a hard time coping with situations in which you are not the master of your own fate. Situations like, oh I don't know, say publishing, where your success hinges on the actions of thousands of people you cannot control.

So, when you find yourself overwhelmed by the pressure, let me recommend pressure washing. It's as fulfilling a therapeutic exercise as you will ever find. The symbolic implications alone are worth it--washing away the grime so that something gleams like new. But it's also satisfyingly noisy and wet and dirty.

I know EXACTLY how you feel! I am a bit of a control freak, but find myself out of control 85% of the time. Hang in there, honey bunches of oats, things tend to work out. It's just the in between that's hard to deal with. Happiness will prevail!

I know you dont want to put on weight, but I think
This is the time for a box of black chocolates.

They do the trick for me, and afterwards I feel guilty, but out of the black cloud.

And remember, if we all visit, it is not because we are like you, (we wish we were), but because we Love you.

Okay, Marc, I know this may sound silly, but one of the very few things I've ever found to help with my own struggles with depression, is cleaning-house....even though I don't have anything to pressure-wash, in a pinch, a bit of dusting and reorganizing my library can be therapeutic...

I've been going through a period of apathy and slight despair lately, and your blog yesterday really cheered me up.

I really admire the way you are able to find ways to work through emotional upset. This blog is an oasis of creative problem solving; I hope I learn from it.

I know how you feel. I've been teetering on the brink of major tear fest for about a week now. I was telling a friend yesterday "Either I'm gonna break down and cry all over everything. Or...I'm gonna have to beat everyone I come in contact with a big stinky fish. Or what ever else might be handy."

My entire house inside and out could do with a good power wash. It's about 150% humidity today. Everything feels grimy and dirty.
Bring it on over. We'll power wash together.

Does it help to know that today at the shop, Phillip Margolin was raving about your books to anyone who would listen? He really loves your writing, Sweetie, and that's no small thing.

We'll keep introducing people to your work, and bit by bit, your fame will grow, I promise it will!

Ah ha! This explains my husband's love of the power washer...I might have to wrestle it away from him for a good cleansing.

Hope you've washed away the tears.

I had to pressure wash the sidewalk at work once. Unfortunately, I had no upper body strength and so I ended up getting very little off of the sidewalk and after the water evaporated, it looked exactly the same!

the next time you and annonymous are depressed, will you two come over and power wash and clean up my co op? :)
Another favorite quote of mine (I love quotes) is: "I can handle any crisis. It's everyday life that I can't cope with!" (parapharased, and I don't have an author to attribute it to-I'm sorry.

Your latest book was great and your next will be even better. One day, you'll be so famous that you'll be hurling empty whisky bottles at your closest friends while they scream "you changed man!" as Poison plays about fallen angels in the background. Rock star syle! It will be great.
