New Day #186

Today I went to the auditions for my first professional play, Holidazed, which will have its world premiere this November at Artists Repertory Theatre.

Neither my collaborator C.S. Whitcomb nor I had looked at the script in months, so we had the surreal experience of laughing at our own jokes and crying at our dramatic scenes.

Pictured here are our director, Jon Kretzu, me, C.S., Susannah Mars, who is already cast in the lead role of Julia, and her daughter Olivia, who auditioned for a role she was born to play, Julia's daughter, who is also named Olivia.

In the words of Lena Horne when her son-in-law cast her as Glinda in the movie version of The Wiz: "Nepotism never hurt nobody."
