New Day #123

Went with my buddy Tara from 94/7 fm Alternative Portland to watch her get her tattoo touched up. While I enjoy any opportunity to stare at other people's bodies, I have to admit that tattoos still look dirty to me. What's more, I can't imagine anything I'd want on my body for the rest of my life, with the notable exception of Mario Lopez.

Still, I enjoyed watching her and listening to her tattooist, Mighty Mo, tell us how he recently tatted a porn star's dick.

At this point in my life I don't think I could bring myself to get one because it's such a cliche and I hate being unoriginal. I mean, I might as well scrawl the words "mid-life crisis" on my body and be done with it.

So I did, just to see what it was like.

But I used a Uniball pen.

thanks for the lovely mario pic!

it's funny, while i was reading your blog earlier i noticed that you didn't have any apparent tattoos and thought that was a little unusual for a 40ish art scene sorta guy--especially in portland. you go guy, breakin' stereotypes :)

Having been itrigued by tats for many years, I took the plunge this past summer and got one. I did not want to be cliche, like you note. (It may have been too late for that, I don't know.) So, I got something that I think was original, it was a quote in Latin that has been my mantra for the past 10 years, between my shoulder blades.

Heh heh, you said "ball."

And what mantra is that?

"non illegitimi corborundum est"

translation is: "don't let the bastards grind you down"

I will say they are addictive. They are like Lays potato chips, 'I bet you can't get just one' (parphrased). Ever since I got it done, I want more. I have pages of Latin quotes to narrow down.
Though, I think I can say with certainty, that I won't be getting any tats on my dick. But my hat is off to those guys who've had it done.

All About Eve is one of my favorite movies! however, i doubt that draining the gas out of the car would work when we live right across the street from the theatre and are doubly carless...

also, wow! an unsolicited comment from Marc Acito! I'm guessing you did a blog search for your books, because I have "How I Paid For College" in my favorite books section. hey, no shame in that, I google myself all the time. mostly i get pictures of this french singer guy who shares my name...which is too bad.

Very nice to hear from you! I love your blog. your goddaughter is adorable. likewise is mario lopez, but in a very different way.

cheers!
