New Day #262

Sorry for the haphazard posting. Have been trying to cram too much activity into too little time. Story of my life.

Partly I've been catching up on sleep. Sunday at dawn I went for a hot air balloon ride with Madonna.

"Is it strange having a name that was co-opted by someone famous?" I asked this very pleasant though not famous woman who was in the gondola with us.

"Not a day goes by that someone doesn't comment on it," she said. "When I was a kid it was always the Lady Madonna song by the Beatles."

"Not God's mother?" I asked.

"No, never that."

More later on the ride, but here's me perilously close to a searing wall of flame.

Ahh, I used to be a balloon fanatic. Champagne and propane, breakfast of champions. I'll be interested to see how you liked it.

no wonder you seemed so tired sunday night! not that you were any less sparkling or attractive, of course...

i went up in a balloon once--i'm somewhat afraid of heights, but somehow didn't feel it in the balloon. i think it's the lack of a direct line from you to the ground, such as you see from the top of a building. something about the free floating makes it less scary i think. what did you think?

Hey! Is that John...John of the Pygmies from the writing retreat...?? Wonder how those little guys are doing in his pages.

Yes, our pilot was Jon Dragt, the author of the best California pygmy novel ever.

In fact, that's how Floyd and I got the free ride. I'm reading his manuscript and giving notes in exchange.
