New Day #64

Still more adventures in chocolate. After extoling the wonders of Depaula Confections, I scored an invite to assist the chocolatier himself. Like an Oompa-Loompa. (One of the cute, cuddly ones from the original, not the creepy CG guy in the remake.)

I learned so much, like how you should always inhale through your nose while eating chocolate to enhance the flavor. (Try it, it totally works.) John Depaula also shared the inspiring story of how he's living every cubicle dweller's dream: after Intel phased out his division, he went to France for a year to become a pastry chef. As a result, he creates "nouvelle American" chocolate, which is more subtle than American sweets, but more "flavor forward" than the French.

Together, John and I made a gorgeously glossy mixture of creamy dark chocolate infused with cherry brandy to create these Cerise Bon-Bons:Like the Oompa-Loompa doompadee do.

Man, those look good. Almost to pretty to eat. But, I'd give them a try.

Beautiful candy, too pretty to eat.

~sigh~

Why do people ruin perfectly good chocolate by adding fruit to it?
