New Day #167

I've been gawked at!

This past weekend, I got the last word in an article in the Wall Street Journal about authors making videos. This was also a New Thing, but I was busy making ice cream and walking on stilts, so I didn't mention it.

Then the snarky Manhattan gossip site Gawker.com picked up the story, accompanied by the snarky headline "Self-Humiliating Your Way to Literary Stardom." I'm thinking of needle-pointing those words into a sampler.

I'm not famous enough for Gawker to mention me in the article, but they did provide a link what they referred to as a "dignity sapping author video."

Of course, that would presuppose I had any dignity to begin with.

God I've been self-humiliating myself for decades and haven't gotten very far.

I'm with you, Marc. Some day, this illustration will be added to the increasing number of Oz tattoos on my body.

If it weren't for self-humiliation, I would lead a very boring life.

That's great! Your own words and antics promoting your book, being spread around by the news media.

Obviously they've read "Attack" and knew it was worth mentioning as free publicity for you.

Congrats! It's an awesome read.

Hey Marc, you know your "somebody" when you've been Gawked! Congrates.

BTW, I finished your new book last night. I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT! I'm even sorry I finished it. Now I'll have to wait for the next one. Big time WAY TO GO to you.

This reminds me of when friends try to 'persuade' me into doing something with the threat that they will embarrass me by telling some sordid tale of my past. My response is, "go ahead. I have no shame, so you can't emabarrass me, and besides, I pretty much tell people already of the sordid details of my history.
Congrats on getting gawked. (Although I'm not totally sure what that means.) Was it Oscar Wilde who said, "any publicity is good publicity?"
Btw, I can't remember whether I've told you or not, but I LOVED the book!
